Paying tithe in churches has come under serious scrutiny by church goers in Nigeria . Few days ago Bishop Oyedepo spoke on tithe and Nigerians called him out .
NAIJA NEWS NG brings you the different views of top Nigerian Pastors on paying Tithe today in churches .
Here are the different perspectives on tithing:
Bishop David Oyedepo said today:
“Tithing is an inescapable covenant obligation. Prosperity not just wealth is impossible without tithing because when you are not paying tithe, you’re under a financial curse.”
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome said:
Tithes, seeds and offerings are compulsory.
Bishop Mike Okonkwo said:
“I had frightened the church with curses for not paying tithes and that was because I didn’t know any better.
“You know, we conjure all kinds of semantics like, ‘If you don’t pay your tithe, your life will be tight,’ and the people pay out of fear without God’s blessing.
“God wants you to pay tithe out of love; it shouldn’t be about the money, but about Jesus.”
Reverend Sam Adeyemi said:
“The law of the spirit of life in Christ has made us free. Romans 8 clearly tells us that we are free. No Christian should feel guilty for not paying tithe. There is nothing you can add to what Jesus did to be qualified before God. When Jesus said it is finished it was finished. Gal 3v13 says Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law. A Christian is not cursed because he or she did not pay tithe. A Christian should not give out of fear. A Christian should give out of love. We are free from guilt, from fear. We are in a dispensation of grace.”
Mr Ifedayo Olarinde a.k.a Daddy Freeze, responding to Bishop Oyedepo, said:
“Are you one percent as prosperous or as wealthy as Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet who don’t tithe? I personally find this unscriptural statement manipulative and cruel.
“Christ didn’t collect tithe neither did the disciples, yet no one was cursed! Tithing is the old law. Obeying the old law partially, without obeying all the 613 laws of Moses is what carries a curse. That’s why to us Christians, it’s referred to as the law of sin and death!”
