Edo State Lawmakers loyal to former All Progressive Congress National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole have impeached the Speaker, Frank Okiye.
NAIJA NEWS NG learnt that the faction made up of seventeen lawmakers also elected Victor Edoror as Frank Okiye’s successor. To replace the impeached Deputy Speaker, the Oshiomhole ‘s faction elected Emmanuel Agbaje of Akoko Edo Constituency II .
14 out of this 17-member faction who elected the new leaders were those Edo Lawmakers whose seats were declared vacant. After security officials took over the State Assembly Complex and some men vandalized parts of the building, the Lawmakers went to a private location in Benin City where they did these elections.
Pundits are watching to see how this impeachment will play out as it was done without the Mace and outside the State House of Assembly building. You will recall that the Edo House of Assembly has been roped in crisis since 2019 and has gotten worse as the governorship elections in the state builds up.
