1- Great Work Ethics:

Nigeria’s richest blogger, Linda Ikeji, has a great work ethic. She runs her blog all by herself yet she churns out over 30 articles a day! If you write, you will know this is not a joke. You need hard work to succeed as a blogger. In the past, bloggers found it easy to rank on google because there were few competitors .  Today, there are millions of blogs in Nigeria alone so you need to go the extra mile to be taken seriously.

2- Consistence :

Consistence is the mother of conviction. If you ask successful bloggers, they will tell you that people didn’t take them seriously when they started. Consistency convinced their audience. The same audience became their market. Here is an excerpt from Telegraph‘s article on Chiara Ferragni:

Chiara Ferragni doesn’t do things by halves. She does them by the million. She has over 5 million Instagram followers, over 1 million Facebook ‘likes’. Her blog-turned-lifestyle website, The Blonde Salad, boasts 6 million monthly page views. Her revenue projection for 2015 is $9 million (about £6 million). Not bad for a 28-year-old fashion blogger.

She started The Blonde Salad in 2009 (the moniker is courtesy of her hair colour and mixed-bag of interests) on the back of her significant Flickr following – she had been using the image-hosting site since 2007 to post her daily outfits. She, with the help of then-boyfriend Riccardo Pozzoli, found her footing in the then-relatively-unpopulated style blogging arena quickly and lucrative offers to partner with fashion brands such as Dior and Louis Vuitton soon began to flood in.

Chiara’s consistency paid off.

3- Unique Selling Point :

You can’t see a successful blogger who is a duplicate! It doesn’t work. You are the only you in the world and the world needs you because you have something new for the world. The copy-cats are those who never make the top 10 list of the successful. You have to find the you and sell it to the world. I have seen bloggers in a congested niche using their personal life stories to look different. Use your unique selling point, that’s your key to the city.

4- Daring Heart :

You can’t succeed if you don’t have a large heart. Forerunners are people who dare to go where people don’t have the heart to. Most successful bloggers today were told they were wasting their time on their computers, they were called jobless people. Today they are laptop multi millionaires.  You need to have the heart to do something new or something daring. Warren Buffet once said :

Be greedy when people are scared, be scared when people are greedy

This is the secret of the wise pathfinders. If you are in the news niche, you must be daring enough to break scandals. Take a look at Linda Ikeji, TMZ and Gawker, they were positioned by the stories they broke.

5- Stay Fresh :

Nobody loves a broken record. What shakes the city is the new idea, the new story. Successful bloggers always come bearing the next big thing. This shows they are on top of their game. Staying fresh has a way of turning you into the go to person. Stay fresh and reap the fruits.

These are the 5 things I have seen successful bloggers all over the world have in common. Apply them and see your career soar! Good luck.
