Tinubu and Dogara former Speaker have been rumored to be preparing to pair as running mates in 2023 presidential election.
NAIJA NEWS NG reported that the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin had earlier alleged that Dogara’s reason to decamp to the APC was for an underground plan to run as Vice President in 2023 . Jibrin said :
“I became more disturbed when the reasons given by Mr Dogara for his decamping considering his position as a former speaker.
In his position as a member of BoT, Mr Dogara has never laid any complaints to me as the Chairman of BoT which is the highest advisory organ of the party and remained the conscious of the party.
Considering seriously reasons given by Dogara for his decamping, one is compelled to say that he has other strong reasons for leaving PDP. I am beginning to suspect that the former speaker has underground motives for joining APC.
I begin to suspect that Mr Dogara has a plan of becoming President or Vice President in 2023 which he knows he will never archive in PDP.”
Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Committee, has on Thursday countered that opinion. He said the purported 2023 presidential ambition of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Yakubu Dogara ticket is mere rumor.
While setting the records straight on BBC Hausa in Kaduna State on Thursday , he also declared that the APC would surprise in September governorship election in Edo State.
His response when asked if the reason behind former Speaker’s return to the APC was to create a Muslim/Christian ticket of Tinubu and Dogara as running mates, Buni said :
“These are mere rumor and rumor strive in democracy. That’s not even our concern for now. It is not even proper to start talking about 2023 when we have a sitting President.
“People are surprised when Dogara joined us(APC). That’s how we will continue to spring surprises. In democracy, people talk but 2023 is not even our priority now. We are working towards uniting the party.”
