BREAKING NEWS : Enyinnaya Abaribe Pulls Out Of Governorship Abia State Race

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has today May 25 withdrawn from the Abia State governorship primary .

Abaribe who announced his withdrawal from the race in a statement, said he would not want to taint his hard earned reputation on a “charade” characterized by the use of an “imaginary delegates list and lack of transparency.”

Abaribe also said contrary to what the public had been made to believe, there was no three-man delegate election anywhere in the state by the party, alleging that the list being bandied about was cooked up by those who want to impose their candidate on the party.

In a strongly-worded statement titled “Notice of Non-Participation in the Abia PDP Gubernatorial Primaries” he personally signed, the Senate Minority leader said his next political move would soon be made public.

“The last couple of weeks has been tortuous as we battled hard to navigate our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) away from a self destructive path.

“The essence was to create an unfettered democratic space and a level playing field for all aspirants vying for all elective offices in the state, to participate equally in the primary elections.

“That was not the case and of course what we are witnessing is a shambolic process driven by a procured court injunction.

“To make matters worse, the use of only an imaginary 3-man Adhoc delegates to the exclusion of the party’s statutory delegates in the primary elections to elect our candidates even when INEC the nation’s electoral umpire, has unequivocally stated that no congress held in Abia State for that purpose, has no doubt put the party and her candidates in a quagmire.

“The implication for our party is grave and as such has put all ongoing primary exercises on quick sand.

“I am known for standing firm in defence of my convictions for the right of all people to a free and fair democratic process.

“That was why my campaign set sail on a democratic journey that took us to all the nooks and crannies of our dear state. We covered all the local governments and we could see the enthusiasm on the faces of our people who are desirous of change to a progressive government with a human face.

“We committed human and material resources, preaching the “Rise Up Abia” message for the total emancipation of our State from the drudgery of imposition and godfatherism, which has seen the state at the lowest wrung of infrastructural, human and material development index among the states of the federation.

“Our people were and are indeed fired up for a new lease of life that will be brought about by a people’s government.

“There was no doubt that Abians are tired of being subjected to being the butt of jokes and ridicle from their peers, particularly those from the contiguous states that were hitherto far behind Abia State in the development index in the time past.

“That was the narrative we sought to change when the campaign took off.

“Unfortunately, the ugly developments ignited by a rapacious ambition to maintain the wicked governance status quo of imposition and godfatherism have aborted this quest in PDP.

“Accordingly, I, Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe will not be part of this charade.

“I am therefore withdrawing from the exercise, which means that I will not be part of the PDP governorship primary election that holds in Abia State on Wednesday 25th of May, 2022, as doing so would have amounted to endorsement of an illegality that is already being challenged in the courts.

“I therefore, ask all our people, our teeming supporters and Ndigbo to remain calm, keep the faith and wait for the new direction, which will be announced very soon.

“What is important is that the campaign to liberate Abia State would surely assume a new dimension. The time is now.

“Thank you for always being there for me and the campaign. Together we shall triumph.”

APC plans to share between N10k to N20k per PU in Osun. What is the plan to prevent this from happening? Majority of Poor Nigerians can’t say no to money at PUs on Election Day. Or PDP and others are just going to try to share money too? You can’t outspend the Govt in power.

He also added :

“To understand how to defeat an incumbent, we must ask ourselves how APC did it in 2015. Everybody came together to do it. They also prevented rigging of votes. Although the vote buying concept was not this bad; hunger was also not this prevalent in the country.”

Gbajabiamila is pride to Lagos, face of effective legislature - Lagos Assembly

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, and members of the House on Monday showered encomium on Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who recently clocked 60.

The members of the House spoke during plenary describing Gbajabiamila as one who has brought pride to Lagos State.

Speaking about Gbajabiamila’s legislative acumen, Rt. Hon. Obasa described the Speaker of the House of Representatives as “a legislator who carries out his duty with passion and dedication. He has sacrificed his own personal interest in the interest of the people.

“You will recall during the reign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); he was awarded a national honour, but because he had reservations the way and manner the country was being managed then, he rejected the offer.

“This shows that he has always been with the people and serves in the interest of the people. He has also contributed a lot to the development of legislative institutions in this country.”

The Speaker thereafter directed the Clerk Barr. Olalekan Onafeko to transmit a congratulatory letter to the celebrant.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, in his congratulatory message described Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila as an example of what a legislator should be .

“He has shown that the older the wine, the better the legislature,” he said.

Majority Leader of the House, Hon Sanai Agunbiade, described Gbajabiamila is a man that is charismatic of the office he occupies.

“He is calm, composed and each time you watch him preside, you would know an experienced legislator is presiding,” he said.

The Deputy Whip of the House, Hon. Mosunmola Sangodara, described Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila as a great leader who has brought developmental projects to Surulere constituency.

“He is a very outstanding man. His success cannot be far-fetched as this trait can be seen in his mother who was once a Local Government chairperson and performed very well during her time,” she said.

In his contribution, Hon. Temitope Adewale from Ifako-Ijaye said Speaker Gbajabiamila had shown to the world that there is credence in legislature .

“We are celebrating a man from Lagos who has rose from the ranks to become the ‘number four citizen’ in the country,” he said.

While lending his voice to the debate, Hon. Sa’ad Olumo opined that “Gbajabiamila had done everything in terms of quality representation. He has great impact on us in his capacity and representation.”
