Keystone Bank Limited has launched an online platform to empower Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) with knowledge to manage and grow their businesses in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The lender in a statement on Wednesday disclosed that the programme tagged: “Keystone Bank Online MSME Academy” is  aimed at helping SMEs cope with the operational stress of the current pandemic and will serve as an enabler for business owners to create an active online presence, digitalize their product, services and find new ways to connect with their customers.

“One way to identify an SME-centric bank is the length it is willing to go in finding new ways to help SMEs to survive and thrive in the current harsh business environment.

“Keystone Bank has demonstrated this passion during the Covid-19 crisis by initiating an online platform to empower SMEs with knowledge in managing and growing their businesses,” the bank said.

Participants at the first edition of the initiative held on the 24th of April, 2020 with the theme: “Managing our business cash flow in times of uncertainty”, gave positive testimonials on how relevant and rewarding they found the training. During the training, participants were taken through series of webinars, digital marketing trainings, digital media services and the provision of other value adding business tools to improve business branding, visibility, profitability and easy connectivity with customers.

Speaking on the initiative, Keystone Bank’s Head of MSMEs, Helen Nwelle, said: “It was no accident that Keystone Bank came up with such an initiative because the bank has always had a culture of helping SMEs grow through the provision of diverse business solutions.”

“This culture is clearly spelt out in our tagline as a bank – WE GROW TOGETHER – because at Keystone Bank we believe that SMEs are the engines of socio-economic transformation as they offer opportunities for jobs and wealth creation as well as income redistribution within our society.

“The current pandemic and its untold impacts has caused a lot of panic in the business scene all around the world and Nigeria is not left out. We are aware that many SMEs are worried about what the future holds for their businesses and how to manage their businesses in order to guarantee business continuity post-Covid-19 crisis. This was why we considered it important to proactively create an enabling environment for them to thrive even in the midst of the pandemic’’

“This development is no doubt an exemplary one from Keystone Bank and SMEs who desire to grow should consider the Bank as a partner.”

“Other interesting trainings have been lined up for the coming weeks which will be delivered in partnership with seasoned business experts, and promises to be relevant during the pandemic and beyond,” she said.

Nigerians React To Tinubu's Claims Of Not Attending Primary And Secondary Schools

Bola Tinubu has told INEC that he didn’t attend Primary and Secondary schools and that his degree certificates from two American Universities were stolen by unknown soldiers in 1990s during the military junta.

“I went on self-exile from October 1994 to October 1998. When I returned I discovered that all my property, including all the documents relating to my qualifications and my certificates in respect of paragraph three above, were looted by unknown persons.

“My house was a target of series of searches by various security agents from the time the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was forced to adjourn following the military takeover of government of 17th November 1993.

“I was the chairman of the Senate committee on appropriation, banking and finance. I was also a plaintiff in one of the two suits against the interim national government in 1993.

“I went on exile when it became clear to me that my life was in danger,” Mr Tinubu said in his claim to INEC .

The electoral law mandates candidates to submit their personal credentials that will be published for public scrutiny ahead of elections.

Mr Tinubu’s latest claims appear to contradict his previous election submissions, especially in 1999 and 2003 when he ran for office as a governorship candidate in Lagos. He claimed both times that he attended primary and secondary schools.

He said he attended St Paul Children’s Home School, Ibadan, between 1958 to 1964; while his secondary education was at Government College, Ibadan, between 1965 to 1968.

From Ibadan, Mr Tinubu said he proceed to Richard Daley College, Chicago, from 1969 to 1971.

He stated finally to have attended both Chicago State University and the University of Chicago.

The Chicago State University confirmed Mr Tinubu as its student, graduating with a degree in business and administration on June 22, 1979.

All the submissions were, however, challenged as fraudulent by a prominent Nigerian lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi.

Mr Fawehinmi, 1938-2009, argued the matter up to the Supreme Court, which dismissed the case on technical grounds rather than on its merits.

Ikenga Ugochinyere, a political activist in Abuja, said he would challenge Mr Tinubu’s filings in court, accusing him of having committed perjury.

Mr Tinubu “commits perjury as he abandons his earlier claim of attending primary school, sworn in an affidavit to run for governor but now claims not to have attended primary school,” Mr Ugochinyere said in a statement. His “new forms contradict his 2007 affidavit that he has primary school and secondary.”

After you elect a man with no birth certificate, no primary certificate, no secondary certificate, no University certificate as your President and put him in charge of your Central Bank and national resources, see my bio for the next steps.
This is not even about “opposition” or “politics” it’s simple due diligence. As an adult citizen of a country, if you are not at least curious about the identity and background of your potential next President, are you really an adult citizen or a clown?

“He was the Chief Accountant of Mobil” and so fucking what? If Mobil hired somebody without doing their due diligence on his alleged personal background, does that mean a whole country should close their eyes and do the same to elect a President?

Bola Tinubu should be in jail for committing perjury as he abandons his earlier claim of attending primary school, sworn in an affidavit, to run for Governor but now claims not to have attended primary school. Anyone educated person supporting this man is a functional illiterate.

“You know asking necessary questions before putting out tweets like this is very important so that you don’t land in trouble. Constitutionally, the minimum a person contesting the Presidential election is required to provide is Secondary School Certificate or it’s equivalent.
If a man presents a higher educational qualification and doesn’t present others, he’s still constitutionally qualified to contest the election as the law presumes that he attended and possesses the lower educational qualifications, except there’s any evidence to the contrary.
In which it’s not a burden on him to prove but to those who claims he didn’t possess the lower qualifications. The constitution does not mandate that you provide all your certificates but the relevant one that you desire to use to contest the office in question.
In fact you can possess higher educational qualifications and still contest only with the lower but minimum educational qualifications. It does not make you less qualified or that you have committed perjury. The constitution allows such flexibility.
The above does not need much of technical knowledge but application of common sense. But I understand it’s a political era and we want to go about with all kinds of propaganda and dirtiness. We need to start playing politics differently from our elders so we can make the changes
“It’s equally verifiable that Tinubu worked with Mobil as an Accountant many years ago before joining politics and working at that level common sensically and presumably suggests that he had primary and secondary educations. Let alone the higher education!”
