Obaseki is now facing new challenges in PDP. His new party has not succeeded in convincing the three aspirants to drop their ambition for him .
You would recall that before Obaseki decamped to the PDP, Gideon Ikhine, Ogbeide-Ihama and Kenneth Imasuagbon were already screened and cleared by the PDP to contest in its primary.
For the National Working Committee everything changed when the Edo State Governor joined the PDP and picked the party’s form to contest in the primary . He pulled a team with him into the party which includes his Deputy, Hon. Philip Shuaibu.
Obaseki joining the PDP also forced the party to move its primary which was already scheduled to hold last week to Tuesday, 23 June 2020.
He has been plotting and strategizing on how to pick the party’s ticket. He has knocked on several PDP iron doors like those of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state; Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Aminu Tambuwal and the Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike in a bid to get his ambition realized .
Naija News NG can confirm that a meeting of top PDP leaders was held Saturday night with the three governorship aspirants but it ended without solution. Imasuagbo, Ogbeide-Ihama and Ikhine refused to be swayed.
“Yes, there is pressure from them. But it is not about pressure, but about doing the right thing in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, due process and the Electoral Act.
“It is disappointing and a big shame in Edo State and the entire nation and it portends danger for the country and the party. Nigerians should rise up against what is happening. We are not in the jungle; it is not a do-or-die affair, but about the process. It is totally unacceptable,” Imasuagbon said.
