Fulani herdsmen are using traditional rulers in Igbo land to penetrate, MASSOB reveals .
Naija News NG reports that the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB has accused Igbo monarchs of taking N100,000 monthly payment from the Federal Government to keep quiet. The MASSOB through its Director of Information, Mr Sunday Okereafor, said the monarchs should be held responsible for the killings by Fulani herdsmen in the South East.
Okereafor said this while reacting to the recent killing of a farmer in Obudi Agwa in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State . He added that some communities in Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra had suffered a similar fate in the past.
Okerafor who spoke on the phone on Wednesday, said the N100,000 the Ezes get from the Federal Government has made them mute on the killings of the Fulani herdsmen in Igbo land.
“In some communities in Igboland, a monarch will sit on his throne and a Fulani man ill come with his cattle and pass through the palace of the traditional ruler. But they (ezes) will not make any comment because they have compromised.
“You can imagine (the monarchs) allowing the Fulani herdsmen to stay in his backyard in the bush; doing what? But we are telling the ezes and the governors that we are aware of what is going on and their days are numbered.”Okereafor said,
The Traditional ruler of Ishiala Umudi in Nkwere LGA, Eze Joel Udenkwo, debunked MASSOB’s allegations , he said no Eze will choose N100,000 over the security of lives and properties of his people.
“The claim (that monarchs in Igbo land collect N100,000 from FG) should be discountenanced,” the traditional ruler said.
Eze Joel Udenkwo insisted that an Eze is the custodian of the culture and tradition of his people and as such can not compromise his community for financial gains.
