The 11 Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOS) have been directed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to suspend the September 1 new tariff.
This is coming after the Federal Government and Labor reached an agreement to suspend the planned strike which was inspired by the hike in electricity tariff and increase in fuel pump price.
NAIJA NEWS NG reports that NERC said that from September 28 to October 11, the DisCos will revert all charges to the tariff existing as of August 31. This is to enable a wider consultations between the Government and labour, with a view to reaching a compromise and resolution of the contending issues involved.
This was announced on Twitter via NERC’s official Twitter handle . NERC wrote :
“For anyone who may have missed it, NERC has issued an Order to the DisCos suspending the recent review in tariffs for 14 days in line with the FG’s agreement with the Labour Union. During the suspension, all tariffs shall be computed on the rates applicable as at August 31, 2020”
